then and now

Quinn told her new hair stylist that she is not Katie Holmes and she just wanted her long hair trimmed. It was not to be. But you can tell from this picture of my little girl that I think she is perfectly suited for her new hairstyle.

too bad

Too bad we had such crummy weather out here at the Oregon Coast for our team retreat.

Josh and Mauri are teaching Gregg and Steve a new hacky sack step…or so it appears.

Gary and Susan are here again, serving us delicious meals. And all is well with the world.

what did we do before computers?

Mauri and I are out at the Oregon Coast, enjoying time away with our pastoral team. We were served a wonderful meal and had our first group gathering and now we’re sitting in a quiet circle, quiet except for the clacking of computer keys and the occasional exclamation. Most are playing WordTwist together and the rest of us are just chilling on Facebook or, like me, posting. Here’s the visual:

imagine, if you will

“Owls are the only birds who can see the color blue.”

My newsreader shared this random tidbit on today’s feed. I might have more important things to ponder this Sunday morning, but I’m imagining all the world’s bird species sending a representative to the lab to be tested. Some journey long distances, but birds are built for that. Well, maybe not chickens. Chickens are birds, aren’t they?

The birds line up in a little birdie row, waiting their turn at the color chart. While the researchers are at it, they might as well discover which one(s) can see red and which one(s) can see yellow and which one(s) can see green. So it takes a while. I hope they provide species-appropriate snacks and maybe show a movie.

her other birthday

Posted by Sherry on October 2, 2008

For the last year, every time I’ve visited Cassidy or she’s visited us she’s asked me, “Do you remember that I’m a Christian?” Today is Cassidy’s one-year Christian birthday. In light of eternity, this year is a mere blink of her eye.

This is the day we’ve been waiting for—the day of Rachel’s scheduled ultrasound that would reveal the gender of our grandbaby along with its general well-being. Just before I left for work this morning my phone chimed. A picture and the message: It’s a baby! Of course I instantly saw the distinct Macy profile. No doubt you see it too.

We had to wait until Rachel called us back to learn that we’re expecting a grandson! And we learned that Baby Boy Williams appears healthy and hearty. We’re elated!

Addendum: This is a hoot. After I posted the above, I looked at John’s mom’s blog, and she had posted something quite identical but from a different perspective. You gotta see!

me!

I follow a blog that features different artists and their work. Sometimes I dig it, and sometimes I don’t get it at all. With copyright laws and all, I’m never sure if it’s okay to print something I find there, but I don’t “worry” about pulling digits from the Internet and storing the files in my computer for my own enjoyment. But I’ll risk sharing a couple of pieces that I like quite a bit.

Last week I came across an image that caught me up short. Right there on my monitor I was staring at myself. Someone I’ve never met has totally captured my essence in a piece of art.

You see it, don’t you?

traveling mercies, loved ones

Posted by Sherry on September 27, 2008

Last night a small group of family and friends gathered to bless John and Erin as they embark on their vagabond adventure around the world. Collective love filled the room as we heard their travel plans and then shared individual blessings for the two.

Today, Pete and Linsey and Mauri and I drove the travelers to the airport.

Here’s a picture we’ll look at more than once. Imagine traveling for eight months with only a backpack! The other bags hold their camping supplies and gear for the New Zealand leg of the itinerary and will be left behind or shipped home as they move on to their next country.

At the airport we…

ate…

(John’s prophetic fortune) and…

prayed and…

sang the family Happy Birthday song to Erin’s mom (in Virginia) and of course…

hacked. And after a final round of hugs and some tears, they were off to Fiji.

We’ll be watching their blog for updates as they learn and grow and serve and experience a different way of life for the next eight months.

Traveling mercies!
