curls and girls

Posted By Sherry on April 7, 2008

There was a little girl
Who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead
And when she was good
She was very, very good
And when she was bad
She was horrid.

My mother used to recite this poem to me on a regular basis when I was growing up. I got the point. Little Sharon was not the easiest girl to raise.

Some things never change. I still have the curl in the middle of my forehead. We don’t need to discuss the rest of that verse, but some would say that part is still true as well.

You’ve probably either heard or said, “Just wait until you have kids of your own! I hope you end up with one just like you.” Today came a reminder that certain personality traits get passed from one generation to the next.

Looks like Quinn got my wish! And she wouldn’t want it any other way, right Q?

  1. You know, I heard that poem a lot as a kid. From my dad. You know, the guy who leads the prayer and healing conferences. That talks about the power of words. And self-image. And the damage that people carry from the actions and influences of their parents. Yeah, him.

Maybe that’s why he always pays when I go to the Journey. :D

  2. I just have to comment on AJ’s comment. So funny.

Often I think- one dollar for the college savings plan, one dollar for the counseling fees..
This is the reality of being a parent.

  3. I heard that poem a lot too. The difference at our house growing up was that my sister said ‘when she was bad she was torrid’ once, and so it remained ever after.

  4. Love the girl with a curl pictures! I have to admit, I have only seen you “good.” :) And your Ednamom sounds wonderful! How good God is to replace our sorrow with joy in His faith community. Reminds me of a special woman in my own life with whom God surprised me with when I moved to Michigan. Love your website!
