weekend with ben, continued

Home again, home again, jiggidy jig. I ended up on two planes full of Oregon Ducks fans, easily identified by their green and yellow attire and broadly grinning faces.

I’ll share my travels story in my usual manner—mostly with pictures, They demonstrate the best part of my former life in Michigan, the people I came to love and continue to love. My time was short, and I couldn’t see all the folks I’d have wanted to see: Dave and Millie, Gloria, Kathy, Trace and babies I haven’t met yet, to name a few. But for all but one planned lunch with Ev and Ange (dear sisters who have blessed us with two visits to Oregon), I used my usual drop-by method. It resulted in delightful visits with Sharon (who seems to age in reverse), Dick and Shirley (beloved neighbors, now family), Char (faithful walking partner and confidant—not pictured), and Jamie with her son, Michael (a dear friend Quinn shares with me, who drove a long distance for our too-short visit).

The lawn of the family’s lakefront home provided the perfect setting for Hannah and Michael to begin their life together. I regret the picture I took of the bride’s attractive mother, cousin Lisa, did not flatter her, so I didn’t include it. After the wedding, cousin Mona provided us with lively conversation and a place to rest. In the morning, she and Dick released their five Jack Russell terriers (getting four in one picture was no small feat) and one golden retriever from their sleeping quarters to hilariously entertain us with a circus of antics.

Nothing compares, though, to sharing a slice of life with my dear son Ben. You gotta love a guy who would stand at the end of his driveway to honor his mama with the traditional white-hanky farewell.
