on the move again, sort of

Since our tandem mishap last April, walking short distances is the closest I’ve come to any kind of workout routine. Up till then I was a fairly faithful user of the treadmill.

Some people long to be outdoors, especially on days like yesterday, when God teases us with a hint of spring in the air. I’m not one of those people. I’m content to look out from my confined, climate-controlled existence and keep doing whatever it is I’m doing. Thankfully, Mauri cheerfully invites me to join him on the tandem and I used to accept — until our mishap, from which I seem to lag in progress toward full recovery.

Enter the Ironman recumbent exercise bike. I ordered it from overstock.com and it arrived while Mauri was out at the coast. While it waited patiently in its shipping box for Mauri’s put-things-together abilities, I made a project of clearing a space for it in the project room. Today I began a new workout routine. Two miles wasn’t all that far to ride (I know, I know…I wasn’t actually riding) but it’s a good place to start. It feels good to be on the move again, even though only my legs and feet are moving. I hope this will get me walking better and back to accepting Mauri’s cheerful invitations to take a ride—outside!
